Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello! I was born in Mersin in '85. Growing up in a small town came with the incredible perks of freedom and a happy childhood. As the little sister in a football-loving family with two older brothers, my early years involved plenty of “mandatory” goalkeeping and ball-fetching duties. :)
During my college years studying Journalism in Ankara, I gained a lot of work experience through endless internships in both Istanbul and Ankara, all fueled by big dreams. These dreams initially led me to work as a sports reporter covering Ankara teams and eventually brought me to Madrid, where I pursued a master’s in “Digital Sports Journalism and Multimedia” at Universidad Europea de Madrid, a partner institution of Eurosport and Real Madrid.
After a year in Madrid, I embarked on a sports management career that began with Eurosport, a stint as an amateur football referee, and later, Fenerbahçe Sports Club. Following my time with Fenerbahçe, I spent a year with FC Barcelona—a chapter that led me to the classic “love or career” crossroads and ultimately ended with marriage in Barcelona.
Now, I’m back to sports management at Fenerbahçe Sports Club—an exciting, often funny, and equally challenging career. On the personal side, I’m happily married, a mother of one, and a big-time sneaker lover.
What makes an enjoyable day in Istanbul for you?
As long as I have sneakers, sunglasses, and a good coffee, I’m happy anywhere. A walk with my daughter, some fresh air, and a delicious meal with friends—it’s more than just pleasure; it’s the definition of a happy day for me.
If we were to venture outside the city, what would your ideal vacation look like? Any favorite destinations or recommendations?
My favorite city will always be Barcelona. It has my friends, my old home, and my favorite restaurants, so I’ll take any chance to escape back there. Some unforgettable trips include our South Africa adventure, quick two-day Paris getaways, and of course, Fethiye—a go-to for any family with kids.
When packing for a vacation, what are your must-haves? What do you bring along?
Even though I know I probably won’t use them, I always bring my workout clothes. Plenty of sneakers, a couple of sunglasses, a go-to dress, and definitely a backpack. For me, comfort always comes before style.
Any recent book, music, or film recommendations that have left an impact on you?
Since Güneş was born, I've been deep into child development books—and frequently reading Peppa Pig these days. It’s hard to explain for those who haven’t experienced it! On Netflix, I gravitate towards sports documentaries and autobiographical productions. Some favorites include Icarus, The Great Hack, and Griezmann: Making of a New Legend.
And with all the platforms in our lives—Netflix, YouTube, audiobooks, podcasts—which ones are part of your routine? Any favorite channels, podcast series, or shows you'd like to share with us?
Netflix, Netflix, Netflix! Favorites include House of Cards, Good Girls, Unbelievable, and so on...
